A Waterview Heights man had only centimetres between a lucky escape and possible disaster following a collision with a tip truck early Tuesday morning.
Police were called to the collision around 6.45am approximately 10km west of Grafton on the Gwydir Highway.
Police said it appears the male driver of a Mitsubishi Mirage pulled out in front of the truck to enter the highway.
The truck was unable to stop and ran over the top of the bonnet of the car, narrowly missing the man in the driver’s cabin.
In what police said was extremely lucky, all the drivers involved were uninjured.
The vehicles were moved off the highway, and recovery services Grafton Heavy Towing and TNT Towing worked through the morning to clear the roadway.
Last week, Grafton police station officer-in-charge Chief Inspector Jo Reid reminded drivers one mistake could be fatal.
It followed the death of a 40-year-old man from Grafton who died in a single-vehicle collision near Coutts Crossing
Police said the driver of the Mirage would be issued with an infringement notice over the incident.
