Three jockeys fell from their horses as the result of a race fall at Clarence River Jockey Club in Grafton on Monday.
Apprentice jockey Emily Atkinson sat So Super ($4.80) - in its first start for Gold Coast trainers Toby and Trent Edmonds - on the rails behind eventual runner up Charice ($12, Kirk Matheson), when the gelding stumbled and Atkinson fell from her mount.
Directly behind So Super, Luke Rolls had no time to react on Samantha McGuren trained Cutting Loose ($15), and horse and jockey were sent hurtling into the rail.
In the meantime So Super had gotten back on its feet and crossed directly into the path of Baltic Cavalier ($41) in its first start for Gold Coast trainer Angela Plumb, sending jockey Tenille Gray to the turf.
The fall happened in the closing stages of race one, the Dwayne Schmidt Leading Trainer Maiden Plate over 1020m, won by the race’s namesake Schmidt’s three-year-old filly Love A Diamond ($4fav, Ben Looker).
“Three riders were involved in a fall near the 150m during race one at today’s Grafton meeting,” Racing NSW said in a statement.
“So Super (Emily Atkinson) appeared to clip heels and fell resulting in Cutting Loose (Luke Rolls) and Baltic Cavalier (Tenille Gray) also falling.
“Luke Rolls made his way back to the jockey room unaided. However, Emily Atkinson has back pain and Tennille Gray has pain in an arm and both were taken to hospital.”
