Sport an all-round family affair for the Gallaghers

THE Clarence Valley is a playground - just ask the Gallagher family.

Swimming, cricket, basketball, surf lifesaving, league, you name it - the eldest of three boys Jordan Gallagher and his brother Teven play it.

The multitude of activities certainly keeps Mum and Dad on their toes.

"We're here, there and every-where," says mother Erin Gallagher, who organises Grafton Oztag and looks after baby Carson at the same time.

"In summer we do something seven days a week," she said. "It's affordable, the kids want to do it, and it's the right time. Rod and I are from Brisbane, and here in Grafton sports are a lot cheaper, even for adults.

"People can't say you can't get kids into sport. Tennis at Junction Hill on Friday nights, Little As, friends of mine do archery - it's all at your finger tips."

The trouble for the Gallaghers is what to leave out, especially when Jordan is being selected at representative level for most of the sports he participates in.

He missed Clarence River Cricket's under-12 Gold Coast tour in January, instead busy picking up medals at the NSW Country Surf Lifesaving Championships for Minnie Water-Wooli Surf Club.

Then he missed the NSW Surf Lifesaving Championships on the Central Coast to attend the Mid North Coast Zone PSSA Swimming Trials at Coffs.

Last week the cricket season finished with Jordan playing a major role in Coutts Crossing's win in the U12 grand final.

No time to rest, though. Rugby league slots right in, with defending champions South Grafton Rebels U12s kicking off round one tomorrow.

Then next week Jordan is off to NSW PSSA swimming titles.
