Jarryd Hayne: From apprentice's wage to $37k a week

JARRYD Hayne has been getting by sharing a hotel room in the remote town of Santa Clara on the weekly wage of an apprentice plumber.

SURROUNDED by players living the lifestyles of the rich and famous, Jarryd Hayne has been getting by sharing a hotel room in the remote town of Santa Clara on the weekly wage of an apprentice plumber.

Since joining the San Francisco 49ers in April, Hayne, who was on close to $1 million a season with the Parramatta Eels in the NRL, has been waiting each week for $600 to roll into his account.

He's boarding private jets, training in the best facilities on the planet, representing one of the most famous sporting franchises in the world, yet Hayne is driving around a second-hand Mazda and collecting a pay-packet that a teenager living at home would complain about. It's not about the money, it never was.

But for a man who is used to five-figure amounts popping into his bank account on a weekly basis, he admits it will be a nice feeling when he receives the first of 17 (duration of NFL season including the bye) weekly contract payments this week.

While Hayne is expected to earn millions in endorsement deals following his successful transition, his three-year deal with the 49ers is worth $US1.58 million,($AUD2.3 million) which means his first genuine pay day this week will yield $USD25,588 ($AUD37,022).
