GRAFTON has enjoyed a promising start in both divisions of the NSW Vets Hockey tournament being played at Grafton Hockey Complex.
The home side was pitted against one of the favourites, Western Districts, for their opening Pool Two game in the tough Over-55 A Division competition and came away with a 1-all draw.
Meanwhile in the Over-63s, Grafton opened its account with an impressive 1-0 win over Newcastle in the morning before a 2-1 loss against heavyweights Sydney in the afternoon.
Tournament director Keith Kauter said the three-day carnival was off to a successful start.
"It has been an absolutely fabulous start to the tournament, except for the rainstorm," Kauter said.
But rest assured the rain failed to dampen the spirits of those in attendance.
"All the boys enjoy their hockey," Kauter said.
"It's all about catching up with old mates and having a beer together.
"It's a really fun time."
