GRAFTON Ghosts will turn out in pink in support of breast cancer fundraising in this Sunday's home game against Macksville.

The day will raise money for the Clarence Valley Breast Cancer Support Group whose funds directly benefit the local community.

Last year the club raised more than $900 for the cause but is confident of surpassing that figure this year and there are two major reasons.

After wearing the fashionable jerseys with pink sleeves and trim, the first grade players have each agreed to purchase them at the conclusion of the match.

Furthermore, Epic Employment have jumped on board to help create a sea of pink at McGuren Field with pink hats and caps on sale at the match.

Vicki Doherty joined the Clarence Valley Breast Cancer Support Group after enduring 15 months of chemotherapy and radiation between July 2011 and September 2012."

"I joined to give back to the community that looked after me when I was not well," Doherty said. "We support women who need help with anything at all as far as treatment and post-treatment is concerned."

The money raised on Sunday will go towards compression garments for local women who suffer lymphoedema, which is a result of lymph nodes being removed from the armpit and causes swelling in the arm.

Doherty has three sleeves to combat the condition and said many women require custom-made sleeves which can be very expensive.

"The garments can cost up to three or four hundred dollars."
