Fierce battle for Yamba swim

The annual Convent to Main Beach Surf Swim will take centre stage as they vie for honours in the 700-metre race, the 2km main event and the Dash for Cash.

300 competitors are expected to don their budgie smugglers and one-piece swimsuits in Yamba today.

The annual Convent to Main Beach Surf Swim will take centre stage as competitors vie for honours in the 700-metre race, the 2km main event and the $200 Dash for Cash.

Competition is expected to be fierce with defending men’s champion Hugh Dougherty one of the main drawcards.

Fresh from his maiden Ironman Series victory at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast the former Yamba Surf Life Saving club member will head into the main event as favourite.

In the women’s 700m and 2km events another former member of the Yamba club Alyce Bennett, will be also out to defend her titles

The popular 150-metre Dash for Cash is guaranteed to thrill spectators with swimmers showcasing their skills in a frantic bid to cross the finish line first and grab the spoils.

Events kick-off at 10am at Convent Beach with the 700m race followed by the main race, the 2km swim which will finish in front of the Yamba Surf Club.

The Dash for Cash begins at noon.
