WITH just a week left in the first stage of voting for the NRL All Stars team, Eels star Jarryd Hayne is in pole position with more than 8400 votes.

Newcastle excitement machine Akuila Uate is in second place with Dragons back Brett Morris third.

The most popular forward in the voting is Cowboys and Australian prop James Tamou.

He is in fourth place, about 500 votes behind Hayne and said he was humbled by the public support.

"It's a bit of a shock really. I'd love to play in the All Stars game so hopefully the votes keep coming in," Tamou said.

Online voting at www.nrl.com.au/allstars closes at 11.59pm on Monday, November 26.

The top 64 players (two forwards and two backs from each club) will then be announced for stage two voting.

That final stage opens on December 10 and closes on January 14, with the public having to choose just one player from each club.

All Stars coach Wayne Bennett and his assistants will then select the remaining two players to form the final 20-man squad - Cameron Smith and Benji Marshall are automatic selections.
