Council eye NSW Hockey Champs

CLARENCE Valley Council will donate $16,000 to NSW hockey over the next three years in order to secure the NSW Hockey Championships next year.

CLARENCE Valley Council will donate $16,000 to NSW hockey over the next three years in order to secure Grafton as the host city for the NSW Hockey Championships next year.

Speaking at Tuesday's ordinary meeting of council, Councillor Jim Simmons said he thought the size of the donation was "a bit over the top" but he voted to make the donation nonetheless.

Other councillors spoke in support of the donation saying it was a good investment and the championships would be a good use of Grafton's facilities which are still under construction at Fisher Park.
