COULD Jarryd Hayne be in play for State of Origin against the Maroons?

New South Wales coach Laurie Daley reckons Hayne could be in contention for the interstate battle if he is picked up by foundation club Newtown.

NewsCorp is reporting Hayne will find out whether or not he has made the Fiji Sevens squad after the shock announcement he was leaving NFL's San Francisco 49ers on Monday.

Daley would not guarantee a spot for Hayne, but told the Daily Telegraph he would be seriously considered.

"Who knows, Jarryd might be back here in a couple of weeks time. If he's here, fit and available, we would certainly look at him for Origin II or III.

"You never say never in terms of what may or may not happen. There could injuries or suspensions, you just never know. He's a guy who has certainly proven he can do the impossible."

Hayne has been the target of national ribbing after going from NRL to the American NFL and now potentially into rugby ahead of the Rio Olympics.
