GRIDIRON: Boomers and Golden State centre Andrew Bogut says despite the media coverage former NRL star Jarryd Hayne has received, his effort in getting a spot on the San Francisco 49ers' roster still hasn't been properly appreciated.
Speaking to reporters at the first day back at training for last season's NBA champions, Bogut said Hayne's achievement in switching codes had been mind-blowing.
"A lot of people here don't realise he's the equivalent to our LeBron James or Kobe Bryant," Bogut said.
"He's that big in Australia. He is one of the best rugby (league) players in the world.
"I couldn't be more happy or proud of what he's doing."
Bogut also revealed he had taken Hayne to dinner not long after the former Parramatta star arrived in San Francisco.
"He was very homesick at that point," Bogut said. "He was telling me about the 49ers playbook, 'I can't get my head around it. The stuff is so hard. Every night before I go to bed, I study it. I feel like I'm back in high school."
Bogut also said he and his teammates would be in the stands on Sunday to watch Hayne's 49ers take on the Green Bay Packers.
