CARLY Leeson has been named the best high school bowler in New South Wales for the second year in a row.

CARLY Leeson has been named the best high school bowler in New South Wales for the second year in a row.

The Maclean High School Year 10 student took eight wickets at an incredible average of 6.23 at the NSW All Schools Open Girls Cricket Championships held at Maitland this week. She was named Best Bowler and selected in the NSW All Schools Honour side.

Her line and length was a key part of NSW Combined High Schools First XI remaining undefeated and defending its title.

"I just try to keep it tight," Leeson said.

"If you do that enough, it builds pressure and the wickets will come."

In the grand final on Wednesday, CHS Firsts defeated the CHS Seconds side containing South Grafton High's Shinae Macdonald.

The Firsts piled on 257 runs off its 50 overs before dismissing the Seconds for 97, with Leeson claiming 2-14 off seven overs.

She also made a valuable contribution as a lower-order batsman.

In the first match against Combined Independent Schools Leeson scored 29 not out to help build a defendable total after the side had slumped to 5-27.

Incredibly, Leeson will be eligible to play for two more years to come.

Leeson spoke to The Daily Examiner while waiting out inclement weather conditions at Harwood Oval yesterday afternoon, which delayed the start of the All-River Colts grand final between Harwood and Maclean United.

She also plays for Harwood in Lower Clarence first grade and under-14s, which play their grand final against Yamba next Wednesday after the side progressed in her absence this week.
