Plots of land in a controversial west Yamba subdivision continue to be secured by eager buyers despite concerns raised by residents.

Almost half of the 57 Stage One lots of land located in the new Yamba Parklands Estate have been secured in the past few weeks by those keen to make a piece of the popular coastal village their own.

The majority of plots sold have been priced at around $245,000 for 560 square metres, with the first secured in April 2018 for a 823 square metre block for $290,000.

Advertised as “an exciting new land development… for family friendly living, bordering lush natural bushland,” the development has raised concerns by Yamba residents about its long-term viability.

In December 2020, a community meeting was held at Wooloweyah Hall to discuss the potential ramifications of these developments, including building on a floodplain, and expected population increase of around 2,700.

The subdivision is part of the West Yamba Urban Release Area which was rezoned in April 2010 to allow for the expansion of the area in line with the Mid North Coast Regional Strategy designated growth areas.

However, upon application for consent for a 161-lot subdivision and associated subdivision works such as filling, earthworks, drainage works and roads, 28 objections to the proposed development were submitted to Clarence Valley Council.
