New medical facility, residential housing proposed

A new $2 million dollar development for Yamba is currently awaiting the green light from Clarence Valley Council

A proposed medical centre and residential development in the heart of Yamba is currently awaiting the green light from Clarence Valley Council.

The application DA2021/0193 was lodged late last month by Emily Hutchinson on behalf of Go Ahead Enterprises Pty Ltd with an estimated cost of $2 million dollars.

According to the documents submitted to Clarence Valley Council, a complete demolition of all existing structures and slabs on 17 Coldstream Street will be required to construct the proposed two-storey facility.

Since the site was purchased in May 2018 for $1 million, the existing building has been used as a retail space for businesses, including The Island Collective and Totalook Clothing.

Plans for the DA2021/0193 include a chemist, three-room medical centre and surgery.

Plans for the first floor feature a medical centre which includes three doctor’s rooms and a surgery, and a chemist that will take up the majority of the design space. Access to both facilities will be via Coldstream Street along with 12 carparking spaces to the rear of the property.

Meanwhile, four residential units will be constructed on the second floor and extend out over the majority of the parking spaces, with designated tenant parking that can be accessed from Little High Street.

It’s understood that once up and running, the medical centre and chemist will be open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 6pm, Saturday from 10am to 1pm, and Sunday from 10am to 2pm.

Community members have until 4pm, April 16, 2021 to submit their comments on this development application to Clarence Valley Council.
