A children’s birthday party in the park has ended with a visit from Police and a court sentence.
Appearing in Grafton Local Court, Grafton man Brad Winderlich, 28, pleaded guilty to intimidation with intention to cause fear or mental or physical harm following an altercation between two family groups in September 2020.
According to Local Court documents, Winderlich and his partner had organised a birthday party for their child at Jacaranda Park, Grafton with around 20 children in attendance.
However, a nearby family not connected to the party took a disliking to the children riding their bicycles on a nearby footpath and, according to the documents, an adult male told the group, “it’s not a f*cking skate park,” before walking back to their family seated on the grass nearby.
Following the encounter, court documents state that Winderlich, his partner and a small group of friends walked over to the family and began verbally abusing them.
According to the documents, Winderlich began arguing about an incident that occurred some time ago, stating to one victim “I’ll f***ing kill you c***, I’m telling you brother” and “I’ll see you when we leave here mate,” before walking away.
The altercation was video recorded by a female victim who contacted triple-0.
Coffs/Clarence Police officers arrived a short time later and spoke with Winderlich and his partner who told them they had a dispute with the adult male after he threatened their children on the playground.
Upon later viewing the video recording of the incident, which was provided by a female victim, police attended Winderlich’s residence where in he denied making any threats, documents state.
Winderlich was convicted of intimidation with intention to cause fear or mental or physical harm and was ordered to complete a two-month Community Corrections Order.
