A Woolworths night packer will have to wait longer to learn his fate for possessing child abuse material after his case was held over until next month.

Grafton resident Dale Jerel Rixon was due to be sentenced in Grafton Local Court on Wednesday having previously pleaded guilty to possessing child abuse material and possessing a prohibited drug.

But the matter was adjourned after his lawyer Anne-Alece Johnston tendered examples of similar court matters where offenders had received community corrections orders of up to three years.

Ms Johnston asked the court to consider a community corrections order instead of jail time.

She said the images had remained solely in Mr Rixon’s computer, he had not gone online and requested more images, nor did he share them.

Mr Rixon is charged with possession of about 1000 images which he downloaded over two periods of time and stored on two different computers.

The matter was adjourned for sentencing on March 9.
