Convicted Maclean child sex offender John William Hardy found guilty again

A man convicted of indecency against 24 Maclean boys in 1991 has been found guilty in Adelaide of further child sexual offences on Kangaroo Island. He is still to be sentenced over his fresh offences.

A former Maclean man jailed for indecency has been found guilty in the Adelaide District Court for multiple counts of abusing children on Kangaroo Island.

John William Hardy faced the District Court in Adelaide on March 31 for abusing seven boys on Kangaroo Island between 2002 and 2019.

The court heard that Hardy was a recidivist sexual predator jailed for crimes in NSW.

District Court Judge Paul Cuthbertson was given a copy of Hardy’s record.

The trial heard he had been sentenced for four counts of indecency at Grafton in 1991.

Hardy was found guilty of five counts of indecent assault and four counts of aggravated indecent assault.

He appeared before Judge Cuthbertson via audio visual link from custody where he remains.

Sentencing submissions are scheduled to begin on June 2.
