A Clarence man has faced court charged with ransacking multiple bowling clubs’ ATMs after he was sentenced for trying to steal a truck and demountable building, a court has heard.
Southgate man Rohan St Lawrence, 40, man has been charged with three counts of breaking and entering with intent to steal from Wooli Bowling Club, Amble Inn in Corindi Beach and Brooms Head Bowling Club.
It’s alleged the ATM thefts commenced in October 2018 and finished in August last year, according to court documents.
Police accuse St Lawrence of stealing about $40,000 from the ATMs.
St Lawrence faced Grafton Local Court on Monday via video link, with pleas yet to be entered.
But Magistrate Annette Sinclair spoke of St Lawrence’s recent criminal history and said a custodial sentence was imminent.
The accused was previously convicted in March last year of manufacturing a homemade firearm, landing him in intensive care for life threatening injuries. St Lawrence was placed on a community corrections order.
In November, St Lawrence’s attempt at stealing a truck and demountable building went awry when a two-hour police pursuit ended in his arrest. He was jailed for 18 months.
St Lawrence’s case was adjourned to the court on March 6.
