A young Clarence Valley mother who assaulted her ex-partner and the father of her child in a fast food drive-thru has cried as she told a court it was the biggest regret of her life.
Unemployed South Grafton mother Cheyenne Walker, 18, pleaded guilty to the common assault of her ex-partner Dean Elks, at Grafton’s KFC drive-thru between 2pm and 2.33pm on March 13.
Police fact sheets tendered to the court reveal that Walker’s ex was waiting for food at the drive through when Walker approached the car yelling “Where’s my f**king son?”.
The fact sheets further show Walker reached through the window of the victim’s vehicle, striking him on his right cheek three to four times and leaving small cuts on his cheeks and a small amount of blood.
Walker attended Grafton Police station after the incident and said “I know I have just done something stupid and I wanted to let you know-I’ve hit my ex.”
When Walker appeared in Grafton Local Court on April 11 she was visibly upset and crying throughout proceedings as she represented herself.
“It’s the most thing I regret in my life,” she told the court.
Magistrate Kathy Crittenden remarked that Walker was a young woman in distress but domestic violence was no excuse.
“Domestic violence often happens when people are emotionally distraught and often because of issues relating to their children.
“The frustration and distress and all of those things is something you going to have to deal with,” Ms Crittenden said.
Ms Crittenden encouraged Walker to get “support, assistance and education” before placing her on a conditional release order of 12 months with 12 months’ supervision at Community Corrections at Grafton.
No conviction was recorded.
