JUDITH Melville has had to go to hospital twice in the past 24 months after falling over on grass verges.

She wants the Yamba Road Cycleway restored as pedestrians and cyclists were now at risk of colliding.

Mrs Melville told councillors at this week's Clarence Valley Council civil and corporate committee meeting the existing "shared" footpaths were transferring the risk of collision with cyclists from road users onto pedestrians.

Her deputation came following the council getting a report from CVC's Local Traffic Committee on the section of Yamba Rd between Golding St and the marina.

There had been recent changes made to lane widths, which led the committee to recommend increased signage to advise cyclists to move to the shared-use pathway. The committee also recommended line-marking changes and wanted the council to review its Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan for Yamba.

Local man Ray Hunt also opposed the recommendations.

"What was once an established Yamba road / shared cycleway was an important element in the council's road infrastructure policy. Now, it's been diverted to a 'shared use pathway', without community notification or consultation, to be rubber stamped by our ill-advised elected council representatives," Mr Hunt said.
