Maddison Kenny had brought her kids out to run around at The Peach Farm since it first opened in May last year.

So when the opportunity came for someone to take on the bustling cafe at Mororo, the chef jumped at the chance.

“I worked at the tavern and did my apprenticeship, and I’ve always wanted to have something as my own, but never found the right place,” she said.

“I’ve been working at (Walla Walla Bing Bang) daycare feeding 50 kids three times a day, and saw this pop up and thought I’d give myself the opportunity to take it on.

“Luckily (owners) Ed and Ray (Cameron) chose me out of a few applicants.”

Ms Kenny said she shared the The Peach Farm owners’ philosophy of using as much local fresh produce as possible, with much of it grown on site.

“We love using all the fresh farm ingredients. They grow a bunch of stuff and we use as much as we can,” she said.

“At the moment all our lemons and citrus are growing, and there’s fresh rocket, radishes and herbs for the salads and smoothies.

“Everything is farm to plate, and if it’s not it’s probably from the next door neighbour’s farm.”

Ms Kenny said she thought the attraction of the remote cafe and farm was its openness, which allowed people to escape the bustle of a busy cafe in town.

“It’s a great place for kids. I bring mine here all the time and it’s nice to let them have a run around and eat,” she said.

“It’s a really healthy environment. You can have a roam, have something to eat and relax.”

And while she said she planned some new menu ideas, when pressed for her favourite selection on offer from the menu, it was a tough choice.

“It’s hard to say – at the moment there’s a special we’re doing on homemade sausage rolls and pastries that are the biggest hit, whether it’s beef or pumpkin, spinach and ricotta pastry,” she said.

“Everything here is homemade, there’s nothing brought in, nothing packet, everything is home grown, fresh and cooked on site.”

The Peach Farm’s owners Edwina and Ray Cameron recently made the decision to lease the cafe space to allow them to further concentrate on the farming and animal side of the Mororo attraction.
