A historic North Coast pub which has been closed for more than four years is on the market after renovations and could soon reopen.
The Argyle Hotel at 205 River St, Maclean is up for sale.
One of the most iconic commercial properties in the lower Clarence Valley, the hotel was built in 1894 and is set on a prime 1004 sqm block in the centre of the Maclean.
The 130 year old freehold property was hailed as “the handsomest commercial building in Maclean” and “the best finished hotel north of Sydney” when it first came to be.
The future of the pub looked grim when a 2019 auction failed to attract any bidders, despite the hotel’s rich history.
However, the hotel was snapped up by Dhugal Cowan in February 2020.
Mr Cowan has undertaken a massive renovation job and the revamped hotel is now ready for new owners to take over.
The property is being sold through Paul Mueller and Christopher Jones of RAAS.
“With its rich history and modern amenities, this 1004-square-meter freehold property represents an extraordinary investment opportunity for visionaries in the hospitality industry,” Mr Mueller said.
“This untapped potential is down to its strategic location, painstakingly restored heritage features and dynamic design which allows for the potential to expand its business offerings and drive revenue.
“It’s possible to build a microbrewery crafting local flavours, a boutique hotel redefining luxury, or a culinary haven leaving a lasting imprint.”
A development application approved last year allows the new owners of the hotel to shape the bar and restaurant areas, and children can enter in the company of an adult.
An expression of interest campaign for The Argyle Hotel begins on Wednesday night and closes on October 13.
