OPPOSITION Treasury spokesman Joe Hockey has called for Prime Minister Julia Gillard to reveal the true state of the Federal Budget in an address she will give on Wednesday.
In two successive speeches over the next two days, Ms Gillard and her Opposition counterpart Tony Abbott will address the National Press Club as the federal election year heats up.
After a Coalition budget meeting on Tuesday morning, Mr Hockey released a statement calling on the PM to tell the public what the coming budget deficit will be.
He said Ms Gillard should remember her comments in 2011 that "you can't run this country if you can't run the budget".
Mr Hockey's comments were unlikely to yield any answers from Ms Gillard, however, with the sold-out speech likely to outline her plans for the future of the country.
The next official update on the state of the Federal Budget was not expected until May this year.
