Food waste tackled

CLARENCE Valley Council has teamed up with the North East Wast Forum (NEWF) to teach people about food waste in NSW.

WHO doesn't love food? But with more than $2.5 billion worth of edible food thrown out by NSW householders each year, there is a lot that we can do to love our food even more, and waste less. The Clarence Valley community will have the opportunity to find out how through the Love Food Hate Waste Program, an exciting initiative of Clarence Valley Council in partnership with the North East Waste Forum (NEWF).

"Around one third of the food we buy will end up the bin. The Love Food Hate Waste Program aims to raise awareness about the impact of food waste in NSW and reduce how much 'good' food we waste," said Linda Tohver, Education Coordinator for the North East Waste Forum.
"Our newly developed Love Food Hate Waste Marquee and Performers are showing householders in Clarence Valley and beyond, how easy it is to prevent food being wasted and save up to $1,000 a year through planning and buying your food, preparing, cooking and storing food correctly."
Performer, Cowgirl Chef will entertain audiences with a whip cracking, egg beating, vegetable juggling cooking show, leaving a lasting, conscious raising impression! French chef Pierre brings his love for food and good kitchen practices to tantalise the taste buds and awaken the senses.

The North East Waste Forum (NEWF) has been funded though the NSW Government's Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) to develop the Love Food Hate Waste Program in the Council areas of Tweed Shire, Byron Shire, Ballina Shire, Richmond Valley and Clarence Valley.
