Clarence Valley Council will consider a development application for a new facility to be constructed in the Maclean CBD. But first, it wants to hear from the community.
For decades, 62 River Street has remained as an empty commercial allotment just waiting to be developed. However, after the site was purchased in February this year for $359,000 the Cyclo Group Construction & Fitout wasted no time submitting development application DA2021/0645 to transform it into a veterinary clinic.
According to the submission papers, a single-story veterinary clinic has been proposed “to reflect the character of the neighbourhood heritage and complement the streetscape of either side of the road adjacent to the site.”
This will include a simple veranda, weatherboard cladding, Dutch and dormer roof at the front, and traditional exterior finishes to compliment the historic precinct. Clients will also have ample off-street parking with eight spaces and a disabled space, which will be accessed via Taloumbi Street.
Interestingly, the building plans have revealed that, in addition to a surgery, grieving room and isolation ward, the clinic will essentially separate the cats from the dogs with consulting rooms and wards specific to each.
Members of the public are invited to submit their comments or thoughts on DA2021/0645 by 4pm, September 3 through the Clarence Valley Council website.
