What started as a hobby has since become a thriving business for one Lawrence woman.
Unlike most Australians who turned to online shopping to keep themselves occupied during last year’s Covid-19 lockdown, Felicity Whitton turned to her kitchen to perfect a relish recipe.
“I was essentially tweaking it and coming up with all these creations, but when I gave some of the relish to a friend of mine, he gave me the confidence to start selling it,” she said.
“No one’s ever had that much faith in something I’ve done before, but he just really inspired me to take it further.”
Ms Whitton spent the next few months perfecting her tomato relish, caramelised onions, pickled red cabbage, even Great Nanna Marsh’s caramel sauce, as well as coming up with a business name.
“I’m constantly stirring the pot making these things, so Stirring The Pot seemed like the perfect choice,” she said.
While her products are now available for purchase online, Ms Whitton said the biggest support came from the owners of the Lawrence General Store.
“Tess and Mark have given me this amazing opportunity to help grow my business,” she said.
“My products have been on the shelf at Lawrence shop for a few weeks now and it’s going really well, plus one of our rolls here (at Crema & Brew cafe attached to the Lawrence General Store) has the relish on it so that’s helped promote the product as well.”
Ms Whitton said the next step will be breaking into the Grafton foodie scene with plans to open a stall at the Twilight Markets in the near future.
“I’m really nervous but I think it will go well,” she said.
“I’ll be selling all products and hopefully adding a few extras as we grow.
“I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved so far, and thankful for the amazing opportunity I’ve been given by Mark and Tess.”
