B and B to appeal $1500 fine

THE Clarence Bed and Breakfast will appeal a $1500 fine issued by Clarence Valley Council following an alleged breach of the site's consent conditions.

THE Clarence Bed and Breakfast at Seelands will appeal a $1500 fine issued by Clarence Valley Council last week following an alleged breach of the site's consent conditions.

The fine was issued following a wedding ceremony at the riverfront facility on July 14, which was attended by about 65 people.

CVC deputy general manager Des Schroder said the ceremony was photographed by "various" neighbours and was a clear breach of development consent granted in March 2011, which banned functions and only allowed for gatherings of no more than 36 people - the same number approved to stay in the B and B.

Clarence B and B co-owner Terry Hill said she and her de facto Greg were sick of being bullied by CVC and "whingeing" neighbours.

"The people of Grafton love to come here... we don't do receptions any more," she said. "We had one little garden ceremony in July ... it was just visitors of our guests using our lawn."

Ms Hill said the garden ceremony ran from 3-4pm, music was provided by young girls playing unamplified instruments including a harp, cello and violin and the guests drank a total of four bottles of champagne, which they brought themselves.

"The girls were drowned out by the noise of the hillclimb," she said.

"(Council) told us we can't even get married on our own property - it's just bull***t."
