Golfing superstar Cameron Smith tied the knot with Shanel Naoum in a stunning ceremony in Brisbane on Saturday.
News Corp has obtained exclusive images of the couple’s wedding, where they exchanged vows at Brisbane’s Cathedral of St Stephen in front of 150 friends and family, many of whom had flown in from across the globe.
While most grooms make a visit to the barber to have their hair cut ahead of their big day, loveable larrikin Smith kept his trademark mullet and moustache intact, although both looked like they had been given some loving attention.
“Since he's grown the mullet, it’s become his good luck charm, so there was no way he was cutting it off on the most special day of his life, and Shanel loves it,” one close friend said.
Despite Brisbane being blasted by violent storms earlier in the day, the weather gods were clearly on the couple’s side, as only a light drizzle fell as they made their way out of the church.
Smith, who this year made Forbes’ annual athletes rich list, was in a traditional black tuxedo, however it was his bride who turned heads.
Naoum, a chiropractor from Florida, looked resplendent in a classic white strapless tulle and lace froufrou gown and floor-length veil, believed to be from an American designer. She was flanked by seven impeccably dressed bridesmaids in deep burgundy, and her mother had flown in from Florida 48 hours earlier.
“Everyone went over and above in the fashion stakes, there were tuxedos everywhere,” one onlooker said.
“Even his bogan mates scrubbed up OK.
“It looked more like a Hollywood A-list star-studded event than rough and ready Australian golfers.”
Onlookers said “there was not a dry eye in the house” and that the ceremony was “so genuine and so full of love”.
“Cam married the love of his life in the city he couldn’t be more proud to call home,” another said.
“He has the money and the profile which would warrant a heap of security guards, but they didn’t, so the general public were walking in and out of the church to catch a glimpse of the ceremony.”
Luxury coaches then took the guests one kilometre down the road to the reception venue, Rivershed at Howard Smith Wharves, which is considered Brisbane’s most beautiful waterfront wedding venue.
Catching everyone’s attention was the grand floral design suspended from the ceiling, made of 20 dozen fresh white roses.
Just down the road is Smith’s four-bedroom apartment, which the world number 24 purchased last December for $4.85 million.
It is believed the couple will divide their time between their new Brisbane digs and their Florida mansion.
