A five-year-old girl has died in hospital after a suspected methadone overdose at her home in Sydney’s northwest.
Police say the little girl died on Sunday, five days after she was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
Paramedics found the girl unconscious when they arrived at a home in Quakers Hills about 1.30pm last Tuesday.
Detectives say preliminary tests indicated the girl had suffered a possible methadone overdose.
The girl remained in a critical condition but was pronounced dead on Sunday.
Child abuse detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death.
The Daily Telegraph understands the girl was being looked after by her grandfather while her mother and father were at work.
Police say the parents are extremely distressed and are helping detectives with their investigations.
