SOCIALITE Sara Huegill — the publicist wife of Olympian Geoff Huegill — has been accused of stealing a pair of $2500 leather pants from a high-end fashion boutique.
The alleged theft occurred when the 34-year-old mother-of-two was shopping at the Island Luxe store in northern NSW celebrity holiday haven Byron Bay on Sunday afternoon. Staff claim they saw Huegill put a pair of Bassike pants in a large handbag and walk out without paying.
Police will allege the store manager followed Huegill for about 200m before flagging down two mounted police officers to intercept the accused shoplifter. Huegill was arrested and taken to Byron Bay police station, where police say she declined to be formally interviewed and was fingerprinted before being charged with shoplifting.

She was released on self bail to appear at Byron Bay court next month.
The leather pants were recovered and returned to the store. At the time Huegill’s two young children were with husband Geoff at nearby Main Beach.
When contacted yesterday Ms Huegill — who has worked for Roxy Jacenko but now runs her own business — declined to comment. But her lawyers released a statement.
“Sara deeply regrets the incident and apologises unreservedly,” it said.
“Sara has made good progress recently in being treated for issues related to anxiety and depression and acknowledges this is a setback. She has asked for privacy and understanding for her family at this time.”
An Island Luxe spokeswoman also declined to comment. “We would rather not comment on it at this stage,” she said.
It’s not the first time Huegill has fallen foul of the law.
She and Geoff were caught snorting cocaine at Randwick races and charged with possession, with both placed on a six-month good behaviour bond in 2010.
