Commuters and families across Greater Sydney can travel for free on all public transport for 12 consecutive days over the Easter school holidays after the major disruptions from flood and industrial action.
The free travel will start at 4am on April 14, Holy Thursday and end at 3.59am on April 26, the day after Anzac Day.
The free travel will give Sydney some relief after rain, shutdowns and Covid restrictions, Transport Minister David Elliott said.
“To commuters affected by recent rail disruptions, I want to say a heartfelt thank you for your patience,” Mr Elliott said. Mr Elliott said families should consider using their dine and discover vouchers for a night out in the city, or a free trip to the Blue Mountains, Newcastle or south coast.
The 12 free days will cover travel on trains, buses, light rail and ferries.
It comes after the Rail, Tram and Bus Union called for fare free Fridays until June.
