Four prisoners have been hospitalised after an all-in brawl inside a maximum security jail in the Blue Mountains.
Corrective Services NSW said the fight broke out between inmates, including one armed with a jail-made weapon, while they were exercising on an oval at Lithgow Correctional Centre about 10.30am on Sunday.
Elite Security Operations Group officers broke up the brawling inmates and locked them in their cells before calling paramedics to the men's jail.
A 35-year-old inmate was flown by helicopter to Westmead hospital with stab wounds to his torso, while another three inmates, aged 26, 30 and 34, were taken by road to hospitals in Bathurst, Lithgow and Penrith for other injuries.

Multiple other inmates were also treated by medical staff inside the jail for less serious injuries.
No corrective staff were injured in the incident.
Corrective Services NSW and NSW Police have launched an investigation into why the fight broke out.
A jail-made weapon was involved in the incident.
Vision from the scene showed two air ambulance helicopters landing just outside the jail's gates.
