FOMO music festival goes on despite teen’s death

Less than 24 hours after a teenager died at a Sydney festival, the director was showing off his hotel room on social media and appeared backstage at the show’s next leg in Melbourne.

Less than 24 hours after a teenager died at a Sydney festival, the show had moved on to its next leg in ­Melbourne.

While Alex Ross-King’s family grieved the 19-year-old’s death, FOMO Festival director Steven Papas shared videos from a luxury suite and backstage videos from the Melbourne show.

They showed him at the side of the stage while international acts performed to a heaving crowd of revellers.

The Daily Telegraph contacted Papas for comment, which he diverted to the festival’s PR team.

On Saturday FOMO refused to answer questions but instead released a statement saying “safety and wellbeing of our patrons is at the forefront of every planning decision”.

“Our anti-drug messaging began weeks ahead of the event and continued at the event itself — a message we’re proud to deliver and will continue to do so with unwavering commitment in order to keep our beloved patrons safe,” the statement said.

“Our hearts are with the family. Our most heartfelt and sincerest condolences go out to her family and friends.”

The Melbourne show was the last of six Australian and New Zealand dates headlined by rapper Nicki Minaj.
