A Sydney truck driver employed at the Flemington fruit markets allegedly used his job as cover to supply drugs at the markets and around the city, according to police.

They allege Stefan Barta from Greenacre was involved in supplying more than $500,000 worth of drugs in Sydney as well as using registered mail to sell cocaine interstate.

During raids on his home they seized a Nissan Skyline GT-R vehicle worth $160,000, a range rover worth $40,000 as well as Gucci and Louis Vuton handbags and other designer watches and jewellery.

“Six months ago Strike Force Pangolin commenced and we allege this syndicate supplied prohibited drugs worth half a million dollars throughout Sydney,” Detective Superintendent Jason Weinstein.

“During the course of this investigation, officers identified a man was using his employment as a truck driver to facilitate the movement and supply of illicit drugs from a fruit market in Sydney’s inner west,’’ he said of the allegation against Barta.

A further search of a Flemington warehouse saw a pen gun, ammunition, prescription medication, steroids and nearly 500g of an unknown powder seized.

The powder is now undergoing testing.
