Fiery crash in Sydney’s CBD: ‘No consoling those poor families’ after brother killed in explosion

TWO brothers were among three people burnt to death when the $200,000 supercar they were in exploded in a Sydney CBD crash, also killing their female friend who police still haven’t identified.

Jeff Nasr and his brother Steve, aged 39 and 31, were heard screaming for help when the Nissan GT-R R35 erupted in flames after the driver lost control and hit a railing in the early hours of Saturday.

Family and friends were shocked by the young men’s death and their distraught mother was being comforted by her four other children.

“The young men are of a fine family and lost their father to illness a few years ago so their mother and extended family are devastated,” said a spokesman for Assoun Christians Australia.

Three days on from the crash, police said they still hadn’t identified the female victim in the fiery crash and did not know her age.

Jeff Nasr and Steve Nasr. Friends and family are still coming to terms with the pair’s death.

Father-of-four Joseph Bagala, 39, was the sole survivor and in a stable condition today when relatives visited him at St Vincent’s Hospital where he was being treated for horrific injuries.

Mr Bagala’s cousin Anthony Bagala said the 39-year-old was in pain and sedated.

He said his cousin had some swelling on the brain, a broken arm and ribs, burns to his back and was having trouble remembering the incident.

Four police officers dragged him from the car’s passenger seat, which was on its roof when they arrived on scene at the intersection of Harbour and Pier streets at 3am.

Mr Bagala said his family was shocked but also amazed at “how lucky he was to have been pulled out alive”.

“The taxi driver, police, and others who tried to help are brave heroes,” he said.

“One can only hope that those who perished are in a better place but there will be no consoling those poor families of those who did not make it.”

CBD Car crash survivor Joseph Bagala suffered horrific injuries and is recovering in hospital.

Family and friends will gather at St Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church in Punchbowl from tomorrow evening to pay their respects for Jeff and Steve with services to run for three days.

“No words can describe this tragedy and the pain that was left in our hearts,” it said in a notice.

Tributes flowed for the brothers on Sunday, including a heartfelt social media post from their cousin Alana Abousleiman.

“You can never be prepared to hear news that your first cousins have lost their lives in a car crash,” she wrote.

“May the Lord welcome you with open arms as you both look down on us alongside your dad ... with your infectious smiles.”

The case will be handed to the coroner to investigate the circumstances.
