A man has been charged with drink driving and driving without a license after allegedly crashing a Ferrari into a boutique jewellery store in Sydney.
NSW Police went to the busy Market St on Monday around 3.25pm after reports of a crash.
They found the crumpled red Ferrari on the sidewalk after it mounted the curb and cracked the front window of Ole Lynggard Copenhagen.
The driver, 41, was handcuffed by police and sat on the side of the road with his head in his hands.
Officers took him to Day Street Police Station where he allegedly recorded breath testing of 0.107 – more than double the legal amount.
He was charged with mid-range PCA, driving while suspended and driving in a dangerous manner.
His female passenger was not injured.
A lady in her 60s, who was walking on Market St was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital after running away from the out-of-control car.
Paramedics treated her on the side of the road for an injured hip. It is not expected to be a serious injury.
Gary Byrnes, 61, was working nearby and said the crash shook the walls of the building.
“The Ferrari came around the corner of Elizabeth and Market St before spinning out of control,” he said.
“There was a massive bang and I came running out to see what happened.
“The driver was an elderly gentleman who looked pretty shaken. It is very, very lucky no one was hit by the car. It’s a busy walkway here and we’re lucky no one died.”
The luxury car was towed by 4pm and there were only minor delays to traffic.
