THE father accused of stabbing his five-year-old son to death has fronted court today, appearing dazed and asking where he was.
The 36-year-old, who can’t be identified, was arrested on Friday morning after his son was stabbed inside their home in Carlingford in Sydney’s northwest.
The boy’s grandmother has been hailed a hero for trying to save the boy.
The 60-year-old woman grabbed him from the home and started driving him down the street but stopped to raise the alarm when she realised how severe his injuries were.
The little boy was rushed to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead under police escort but died.
The boy’s mother was not home at the time.
The father appeared briefly in Parramatta Bail Court via audio visual link today after being charged with murder.
He stared blankly at the AVL screen and at one point asked “where am I?”.
Wearing a prison-issued green T-shirt, the father did not respond to questions from the magistrate, who had to ask for a corrective services officer to enter the room and physically tell him the matter had been dealt with.
The police prosecutor asked for an order that the accused not contact any prosecution witnesses.
“He would know the key witness in this matter given it’s a domestic violence situation,” she said.
“Family members would be the primary concern.”
There was no application for bail and the case was adjourned to Parramatta Local Court on July 30.
