A court has given accused money launderer Fadi Ibrahim’s passport back so he can go on a family holiday to south East Asia.

The brother of Kings Cross identity John Ibrahim was effectively under house arrest when he was first granted bail more than a year ago over his alleged role in the tobacco arm of an international crime syndicate.

The 44-year-old was released on $2.2 million bail after his 2017 arrest in Dubai in one of Australia’s biggest organised crime raids, which netted his brother and the alleged kingpin Michael Ibrahim.

Ibrahim’s strict bail conditions were again relaxed when he fronted Downing Centre District Court today, allowing him to go on an 18-day vacation to Thailand and Indonesia in April with his wife Shayda and two children.

Ibrahim is normally banned from going overseas or even leaving his palatial Dover Heights mansion at night time and he must answer the front door whenever police knock.

But Ibrahim has now been allowed to visit the two countries so long as he provides the Australian Federal Police with a full itinerary including details of all flights, accommodation and his travel companions two weeks before his departure from Sydney.

Ibrahim has also been ordered to return his passport to the AFP within 24 hours of his arrival back in Australia.

Last year Ibrahim’s curfew was extended until midnight for one night only so he could attend an exclusive charity ball in October and he was also allowed to take his children interstate for the school holidays.

Court documents also show last month Ibrahim’s residential and police reporting conditions were suspended while he returned to Royal North Shore Private Hospital — where he was taken in 2009 after being gunned down outside his house — as an inpatient for an undisclosed medical reason.

Ibrahim allegedly helped finance the importation of illegal tobacco with $800,000 he borrowed against his house, but he strenuously denies the allegations.

He’s charged with dealing with the proceeds of crime worth more than $1 million and dealing with money or property worth more than $100,000 that subsequently becomes an instrument of crime.

Police will allege Ibrahim was captured in telephone intercepts complaining he had lent his brother Michael money for the smuggling ring

“I’d do anything for my brothers, man, and I said to them I, I, I, I f … … went and borrowed on my house for you because you just got out of jail and you had no money. I borrowed on my house for ya,” Ibrahim allegedly said to his brother.

Ibrahim is accused of transferring cash to two alleged money launderers — Toby Lesniewski and Jaron “Ompa” Chester — who would then withdraw it from their accounts.

Ibrahim and co-accused Abraham and Hasan Sayour will next face court on April 5 when their joint indictment is expected to be finalised and a trial date set.

John Ibrahim’s son Daniel Taylor was cleared of any wrongdoing over the case last month.

At least eight other men, including Michael Ibrahim, are also before the courts.
