Extinction Rebellion protesters temporarily shut down a major Sydney street after hundreds of activists swarmed the CBD to recite Grete Thunberg’s speech to the United Nations.
Sitting down in the path of the light outside AGL’s Sydney headquarters on George St, protesters screamed “AGL go to hell, take your garbage there as well.”
They recited a rendition of Greta’s no infamous speech, saying “how dare you!”.
They stood up just after 6pm to continue the march down towards Circular Quay.
Earlier a speaker told the crowd of about 200 people: “We will be swarming this movement to some of the worst massive climate corporations, the worst criminals, contributing to climate change in Australia.
“We can’t exactly predict how repressive the police will be feeling here today but this is meant to be a non-arrestable action.
“To that end, we will be occupying the road for a few minutes and confronting some of the climate criminal corporations along our march.”
She also said corporations to be “confronted” would include Suncorp and Westpac.
