A NSW MP expelled from the Liberal Party after he engaged in “abusive conduct” towards female colleague was also the subject of a second complaint by another Liberal woman.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal Upper House MP Taylor Martin was the subject of a second report by a woman who claims she had a relationship with him when she was an 18-year-old party volunteer.
Mr Martin was on Friday expelled from the party, 10 months after former federal MP Lucy Wicks made a confidential complaint which included accusations of a barrage of abusive text messages including calling her a “pig”, a “slut” and a “c--t”.
At the time, Mr Martin did not deny sending the text messages but said he used heated words during an “ugly and undignified” break-up and said there were “two sides to every story”.
In response to being expelled Mr Martin said he was disappointed and meeting with his lawyers “to review the findings”.
The Telegraph can reveal a second former Liberal woman, who asked not to be named, also came forward and made a supporting submission to the party accusing Mr Martin of “character assassination”.
The woman was a volunteer on Ms Wicks campaign before going on to work for a minister.
In the signed letter seen by The Telegraph and sent by the woman to NSW Liberal Party leader Chris Stone in August 2023, she claimed she had a brief romantic relationship with Mr Martin when he was a 25-year-old staffer in Ms Wicks’ office and the woman was an 18-year-old volunteer.
The pair were romantically involved in on and off in 2016 and in March 2017 but remained in contact over a four-year period including as friends.
It is understood there was no overlap between the relationship and Mr Martin’s involvement with Ms Wicks which began in 2017.
The second complainant claimed Mr Martin “blew up” at her on several occasions and convinced her to keep their relationship secret from members of her office.
“He verbally blew up at me on multiple occasions about the fact that I had confided in other people about the situation, and it became apparent he had a serious temper that I didn’t want to be the target of,” the complaint said.
The woman alleged that during and after their relationship, Mr Martin “embarked on a campaign of professional defilement” by making negative remarks about her [to other party members.
This has been corroborated to The Telegraph by one of the people the woman has claimed Mr Martin spoke about her to.
“Over time, I have become aware of Mr Martin making disparaging comments about me to multiple party members, including that I was ‘a bunny boiler’, ‘obsessed with him’, ‘couldn’t be trusted’, ‘psychopathic’, and ‘dangerous’,” she said.
When asked about the allegations, Mr Martin said he never used these words.
“I did not use these terms, these are paraphrases of quotes from third parties involved at the time eight years ago, and they are not my description of the behaviour,” he said.
“During that time I had my private life gossiped about and rumours circulated within my work environment, which was obviously contrary to my wishes.”
The Telegraph can also reveal that the investigator who found Mr Martin should be expelled never interviewed the second woman about her allegations despite the process taking 10 months.
The day after The Telegraph contacted the Liberal Party about this second allegation, the findings about Mr Martin were made.
“It’s pretty disappointing … They just didn’t want to engage.” she said.
“I thought it was important for me to contribute to this.”
A Liberal Party spokesman said they could not comment on the investigation as it done “independently at arm’s length”.
Mr Martin added: “I was very supportive of this person’s career from the beginning … I sincerely wish them all the best in these pursuits.”
