Erin Molan: Why is the left celebrating the objectification of women?

The very groups who demonised men for daring to even compliment a woman are referring to themselves as “Hotties for Harris”. The hypocrisy is mind-blowing, writes Erin Molan.

"Hotties for Harris": Megan Thee Stallion headlines Kamala Harris rally

Another fortnight between columns and another two weeks of complete hypocrisy of the ‘one rule for you one rule for us’ crowd laid bare for all.

Since we last met on these pages, my news feed has been flooded with reports channelling a familiar theme: ‘40,000 black women mobilise on Zoom for Kamala Harris’, and ‘Celebrity studded ‘White Dudes For Harris’ call raises $4m for vice-president’ they proclaim.

Notwithstanding the clear cultural differences between our country and the United States of America, I still find the categorisation of people based ONLY on the colour of their skin immensely uncomfortable.

Imagine, just imagine, if during the last Australian federal election a group suddenly popped up calling themselves ‘White blokes for Albo’?

The left would be incandescent with rage, very vocally, and to be honest, probably rightly so. We are not a nation of loyal citizens who define ourselves by the colour of our skin, nor does the US purport to be, in fact they’ve led the way in many respects to abolish any dimension of colour-based discrimination from all levels and facets of society.

As I say with sexuality, the colour of our skin is one of the least interesting things about anyone.

So why, when it suits, is the left allowed to segregate by skin colour, but any activity that can be construed as based on somewhat similar notions, by anyone who doesn’t align politically, is considered racist?

I understand and acknowledge the need some communities feel to come together and relate to their specific circumstances, celebrate their uniqueness even, and I certainly acknowledge the need, in some cases, for affirmative policies and strategies to compensate for the damage and inequalities resulting from widespread, global historical wrongs.

But this isn’t that. Kamala Harris was a driving force behind the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement, widely criticised by many African-Americans themselves as being disingenuous, money grabbing and violent.

It was, regardless of other perspectives, sold to the world as a fight for equality, so then why are some of its fiercest and most passionate advocates now happy to wave those principles and segregate?

Candidate for Congress, former soldier and police officer, and for these purposes, proud African-American man, Dr Tre Pennie, says “This is hypocrisy at its worst.”

“Progressives on the left are championing the very issue they adamantly claim to oppose, hinging their politics on race rather than ideology. Race-based politics divides and segregates the nation, rather than bringing us together.”

And also, whilst we are here, since when did objectifying women become not only ‘condoned’ by the left, but celebrated?!

Megan THEE Stallion, a foul-mouthed American rapper, took to the stage of a Kamala rally to ‘sing’, and declare all present ‘Hotties for Harris’.

She also sang the following lines, and I quote directly ‘I’m a hot girl. I do hot sh*t. Spend his income on my outfit’.

Say what?

Forgive me for being completely confused here, but why are we reducing women to being defined by how attractive they are?

I thought the left had sought to destroy that practice?

In fact they get angry and try to cancel anyone who might still drop a ‘Darl’ in the office or, heaven forbid, open the door for a woman thereby inferring she is somehow weak, soft, lesser … Clearly I am being facetious, but isn’t the issue that they aren’t?

The very groups who demonised men for daring to even compliment a woman are referring to themselves as ‘Hotties for Harris”.

The hypocrisy is mind-blowing.

If US presidential candidate Kamala Harris is going to use identity politics to her own perceived advantage, surely questioning it is not off limits. Picture: AFP

The icing on the cake … after all of the above … Donald Trump dared question Kamala Harris’ background at an event overnight.

To which The New York Times took great offence. They wrote, “it took Trump all of 10 days running in a head to head against the first woman and first incumbent of Black and Indian American heritage to openly question her background.”

Their implication being – how dare he?

I couldn’t care less what Kamala Harris’ background is but if she is going to embrace and lean into identity politics for her own perceived advantage … then surely questions surrounding race and gender can’t be off limits?

Mind you, if I were Kamala, I’d be far more concerned with the focus being on my political performance, than my heritage … the Republicans would do well to remember that too.

The greatest weapon Kamala’s opponents have in this election has nothing to do with race, gender or background … it’s her appalling record in office.
