Australian swimming has a hot new golden couple, with Kyle Chalmers and Emma McKeon said to be dating.
Sunday Confidential’s spies first spotted the pair looking cozy while attending an induction session the day after the 2021 Australian swimming trials in Adelaide — and they haven’t been far from each other’s side since.
The couple are currently two of Australia’s most successful swimmers.
McKeon made history at the Tokyo Games where she became the first female swimmer to win seven medals in a single Games.
Chalmers backed up his 100m freestyle gold at the Rio Games in 2016, with a silver in the same event in Tokyo.
The new romance comes months after Chalmers split from Madi Wilson, who is McKeon’s relay partner, after dating since 2015.
Wilson told The Sunday Telegraph prior to the Tokyo Olympics that after years of being romantic, they had decided to break up but remain friends.
“Madi and Kyle were pretty much living together, so their relationship was serious,” one insider said.
“The break-up hasn’t been easy on Madi especially, but they are amicable and still talking.
“That’s not to say Madi hasn’t been struggling with it and her recent Covid diagnosis has made the situation harder.”
Confidential understands Chalmers, who this week debuted new peroxide hair, and McKeon saw their friendship turn into something more serious after competing together in numerous competitions, most recently the International Swimming League, where both swim for the London Roar team of which Chalmers is co-captain.
The team is managed by McKeon’s uncle, Rob Woodhouse.
Further fuelling speculation the pair are an item is the fact both returned to Europe very quickly after completing their post-Tokyo Games quarantine.
In a London Roar podcast uploaded three days ago, in which the pair giggled through answers, they spoke of their desire to remain in Europe until the end of the year, in a bid to avoid hotel quarantine.
Sunday Confidential approached both Chalmers and McKeon for comment.
