A teenager has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing another young man in a Sydney hair salon in a brazen attack on a busy shopping strip in western Sydney.
His alleged killer walked into Bossley Park’s Classico Hair Salon wearing a motorcycle helmet and stabbed the youth in the neck and back.
The accused assailant, who is 18, was arrested at a home on nearby Tallowood Crescent and will appear in Parramatta Bail Court today.
It comes just three days after the Telegraph raised the alarm on the “summer of stabbings” unfolding in our state, with at least 14 — now 15 — since Christmas and 228 call-outs to NSW Ambulance for stabbings in November and December.
It’s believed Friday’s attacker pulled up outside the hair salon on a motorcycle with L-plates and slipped in the back door of the business about 12.40pm.
The motorbike was found abandoned in the back lane behind the Mimosa Rd shop.
After the attack, the victim staggered outside the salon where he collapsed, as his alleged assailant fled the scene. The alleged attacker was eventually arrested by police officers just 2km away at Tallowood Crescent.
Ninos Tooma, who owns Shayna’s cafe next door to the hair salon, was alerted to the attack by screams.
“I just heard somebody screaming, I walked out and I saw him stabbed on the floor,” he said. “When I walked out (he was) laid out on the bench, bleeding.”
The incident triggered panic among nearby shoppers with store owners locking doors as police and paramedics descended.
Four ambulance crews rushed to the scene but by the time they got there the man had lost a substantial amount of blood and was going into cardiac arrest.
He was taken to Liverpool Hospital and died last night. It is understood the victim was known to police but only for traffic offences and the attack is not believed to be gang related.
President of Bossley Park Neighbourhood watch group Anwar Osman said police had been improving safety by working with the Bossley Park Neighbourhood Watch Group.
“We have pushed the crime away about four years ago, but things like that you can’t stop,” Mr Osman said.
