A 26-year-old electorate officer called Taylor Martin will become the youngest person in state parliament after he won Liberal preselection for the upper house seat vacated by former police minister Mike Gallacher today.

Mr Martin, who works for Robertson MP Lucy Wicks, was backed by federal assistant minister Alex Hawke’s centre right faction and, once other candidates were knocked out, defeated the moderates’ Peter Poulos by 29 votes to 23.

Those knocked out of the process prior to this included former Dobell MP Karen McNamara and former Newcastle candidate Karen Howard.
