Elanora Country Club members’ mobile and home numbers published online

A top Sydney golf club’s program has been published online, containing 50 pages of mobile and home phone numbers including those of judges, CEOs and sport stars. Find out who.

There’s only going to be one subject of conversation on the perfectly manicured practice putting greens at Elanora Country Club this weekend – how did all our mobile and home phone numbers end up on the web?

The elite northern Sydney golf course – which charges $295 for a round (if you can get on) – boasts a membership that includes retired Supreme Court judge Patricia ‘Paddy’ Bergin, who led the recent inquiry into Crown casino, former Reserve Bank of Australia board member Jillian Broadbent, ex Macquarie Group CEO Nicholas Moore and current NAB chairman Phil Chronican.

This is known because the club’s 2022-23 fixtures booklet has been published online, containing the luminaries’ names and phone numbers among more than 50 pages of personal contact details.

Also listed are the phone numbers of ex sports stars including tennis ace John Newcombe, Olympic gold-winning runner Herb Elliott, Roosters great Luke Ricketson and Wallaby Phil Waugh, who is the current CEO of Rugby Australia.

It is not uncommon for golf clubs to make such personal information available in the password-protected members’ section of their website.

The contact details of members of Elanora Country Club were accidentally published online.

This is so golf games can be arranged or cancelled.

At some courses, hard-copy booklets are still produced that contain names and numbers of fellow members.

But it’s unheard-of for the contact details of all members to be out there on the internet.

A Daily Telegraph scribe came across the booklet while searching for the mobile number of a leading liquidator.

The Telegraph informed the club that the booklet was out there for all to see.

The reporter asked how it had happened and what would be done about it.

The club said “we were unaware of the issue and are acting on it immediately.

“We have been in contact with our web provider and we will continue to work with them to rectify the issue and mitigate any future risk of private member information being accessible in the public domain,” the club said.

“We respect our members confidentially and are alarmed at this issue. We have commenced action and will keep members informed.”
