Star twin sister footballers have won lucrative sporting scholarships to a US college for the next four years worth $320,000 each.
Siobhan and Brianna Edwards, 17-year-old Year 12 students at St Clare’s College Waverley, have dedicated their teenage years to football training, waking up at 5.15am most days to practice before school.
The University of Louisiana Monroe scholarships are worth $80,000 a year and will cover tuition and living expenses.
The twins are ecstatic they will get to study together thanks to the scholarship,
“We got offered other places, but none of them were together so when the University of Louisiana offered us both a scholarship, and we were like ‘how can we say no?’,” Brianna said.
The sisters’ soccer careers began at age eight after their mother signed them up to their local club in Pagewood, where they played until they were promoted to the National Premier League from age 11. Before being offered their scholarship in the US, they had been selected to play first grade from next year.
Siobhan attributed their success to the fact they both challenged each other to improve both at football and in school.
“I think we drive each other to succeed and always give our best.”
