From fancy dress dinners to sinful desserts, this Halloween, the tricky bit is choosing a treat.

The Classic Cupcake Co

Forget December, for Anna Eden, owner of The Classic Cupcake Co in Mosman, Halloween is the true festive season.
“Seeing the trick-or-treaters walking the streets, biting their way through bunches of CakePOPs [sic] is our all-time favourite holiday pastime,” she says.

Anna has been producing an array of artisanal cupcakes and CakePOPs [sic] for over 10 years, and this Halloween promises another haunting edition.

“We go crazy for our little Pumpkin and Mummy CakePOPs! Every year, we delight in dipping these little darlings”.

Cuteness aside, Anna credits the award-winning cakes to an old family recipe that calls for organic vanilla, free-range eggs, pure butter, and premium chocolate.

“We create all our dough using only the very finest Callebaut chocolate”.

The VanillaMud and ChocMud-flavoured CakePOPs are sold by the dozen ($50) and are an enchanting option for Halloween parties and neighbourhood trick-or-treaters.

But if the spirit moves you, sign up for the Halloween CakePOP class and learn how to make the perfect sponge cake, perform proper dipping techniques, and then decorate them with Belgian chocolate.
Of course, given the name, they also have an array of delicious Halloween-themed cupcakes.

Miss Sina

Trick or treating isn’t just for the eat-everything-any timers; Miss Sina, a plant-based bakery in Surry Hills and Marrickville has some scary sweets for Vegans, too.

Co-owner Sina Klug says, “It’s all treats and no tricks with our delicious Halloween menu this year! Our spooky treats are available until October 31, and we’ve made sure they taste as amazing as they are ghoulish”.

Behind the glass cabinets is a chilling selection of Halloween treats, including the Monster Wheel (Croissant Wheel with Pandan Custard and Pandan Glaze), Red Velvet Donut with Raspberry Blood Syringe, and Cookies & Scream (Cookie Donut with housemade Chocolate Skulls).

While this vegan bakery only opened in 2022, its flaky croissants, fluffy cinnamon scroll, and jam-filled fried donuts have already earned them a loyal following.

It’s unsurprising, though, as Sina is also the force behind the cult-favourite gluten-free bakery, Nutie Donuts.

For those still leery of plant-based food, try the Monster Wheel – the proof is in the pandan.

Dîner en Noir by Secret Foodies

Life is truly like a box of chocolates with the Secret Foodies.

The only real requirement is to bring your appetite because the rest is a mystery – a Mystery Dining Package, that is.
You do have a few options, though, as there is a selection of different themes and cuisines – choose one, select a date, and culinary event veterans, the Secret Foodies, do the rest.
Guests are sent a text message two hours prior with details on where to meet.

A particularly popular affair is their annual Halloween dinner – gothic glamour, bewitching beverages, and a three-course feast befitting a yet unknown heritage-listed CBD location – but which one?
In keeping with the holiday, guests are requested to dress accordingly – think formalwear suited to a sinister soiree at a Transylvanian castle.

Wahlburgers

It’s not a scary movie but there is definitely a connection to Hollywood at Wahlburgers.

These casual burger restaurants are owned by the Wahlberg family … yes, those Wahlbergs: Mark, Donnie, and chef brother Paul.

The trio have made quite the go at it, too, with over 80 locations in the US and now four in Australia (Manly, Circular Quay, Byron Bay, and Surfers Paradise).

But Wahlburgers didn’t slide in on name alone; rather, they’ve become known down under for their American-style burgers with premium beef patties, farm-fresh produce, and a selection of 14 sauces.

Wash that down with a pint of Wahlbrewski, their signature brew.

If you go this Halloween, get your ghoul on and tuck into the “Scary Time” burger with French fries. Be sure to dress up for free candy, best-dressed prizes, face painting for the kids, and a chance to win burgers and prize packs throughout the day.

Le Gourmand

Not all Halloween treats are created equally, particularly if you compare them to the haunting indulgences at French fine food shop Le Gourmand. Here, Parisian chef Frédéric Mariage has created devilishly divine macarons, each adorned with a Halloween-themed design.

These seasonal sweets are available in boxes of 5, 10, 15 or 20 with the option of either a designated selection of popular flavours or one single flavour, including chocolate, cookies & cream, espresso, iced VoVo, lamington, lemon, passionfruit, peanut butter, pistachio, raspberry, and vanilla.

And as they’re plant-based and gluten-free (with some exceptions), there are no tricks with these treats.
