A former Sydney bikie boss now living overseas is considered the new Supreme Commander of the all-powerful Comanchero club, taking the reins from his close associate Mark Buddle who was hunted down and deported back to Australia.

Duax Ngakuru, whose wealth was estimated to be in excess of $100 million, is operating out of Turkey according to sources who also say he is in the company of fellow drug tsar Hakan “Big Hux” Ayik who fled Sydney while on bail for drug charges in 2010 and is also wanted by the FBI.

Ngakuru and Ayik have known each other since their days at James Cook Boys Technology High School in Kogarah.

The Daily Telegraph has obtained the first known images of Ngakuru in 10 years, showing him living abroad. In one frame he is sprawled across the stern of a superyacht which is flying a large Turkish flag.

Another photo shows him with his wife Reynee in the back of car. An old photo also shows Ngakuru at dinner with Ayik and former Comanchero supremo Mick Hawi who was shot dead in Sydney’s south in 2018.

Underworld and law enforcement sources in Australia and overseas say Ngakuru is a major player in the large-scale importation of drugs into Australia along with Ayik.

“They are tight, and have been since they went to high school,” said one underworld source.

Another said the 42-year-old Ngakuru was directing senior members of the bikie gang both in Dubai and Australia.

Ngakuru is also close to Hakan Arif, known as “Little Hux’’, who is wanted by Australian Federal Police after jumping bail in Dubai before they had a chance to deport him back to Sydney on drugs charges.

Both Ngakuru and Ayik attended James Cook Boys Technology High School, along with Hawi and Hells Angel associate Anthony Zervas, who was killed in an infamous brawl at Sydney Airport in 2009.

Hawi, who was Comanchero boss at the time, was jailed for his involvement in the airport brawl. For a brief time in 2010 “Dax”, as Ngakuru is known, took over control of the Comancheros before leaving Australia with his wife Reynee for Dubai.

That led to the rise and rise of Maroubra boy Mark Buddle, who appointed himself as national president and then Supreme Commander. Buddle left Australia around 2013 living predominantly in Dubai with his partner Mel Ter Wisscha and their children.

In August this year Buddle was deported from Northern Cyprus to Turkey and then to Australia by the AFP, signalling an end to Turkey as what many criminals considerd a safe haven.

The AFP allege Buddle, 37, used the ANOM app, which many alleged drug dealers thought was a safe encryption messaging service but was set up by the FBI and was capturing communications between users around the world.

Buddle is charged with importing more than 160kg of cocaine into Melbourne in May last year and is now being held under strict security in a Victorian prison.

“Dax will be worried after what happened to Buddle because he is a New Zealand citizen where as Hux is a Turk so he is probably safe,” said an overseas underworld source.

“I think everyone thought you were safe in Turkey, but the attitude is changing there if you are not a citizen.”

Ngakuru’s cousin Shane Ngakuru is also a member of the Comanchero and was arrested in Thailand in October and deported back to New Zealand on drug importation charges.
