Drugs have been found on an e-bike rider who was killed following a crash with a police car in the city’s south on Friday morning, police said.
A critical incident was declared after police attempted to stop the man, believed to be aged in his 40s on Allen Street in Waterloo, when their vehicle collided with the electric bike that he was riding, at about 3:00am this morning.
The man was treated by paramedics, however he later died at the scene.
NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Peter McKenna said that following a search, police located and seized a large amount of drugs, and money on the man.
“A significant amount of private drugs, we would allege is methamphetamine or ice was located along with a large amount of cash on the deceased,” Assistant Commissioner McKenna said.
It is currently unclear on why police initiated a pursuit and tried to stop the man.
An investigation is underway into the incident, with the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission called in to undertake an internal review into the actions of police.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area with Allen Street, and Elizabeth Street closed between Bourke and Powell Street.
