Disgraced Labor MP and convicted child sex offender Milton Orkopoulos will serve out the remainder of his jail sentence after deciding not to apply for parole a second time.
Orkopoulos, 63, advised the NSW State Parole Authority on Friday he would not be seeking an early release and as a result will remain behind bars until October 18, 2021.
The former politician was found guilty by a jury in March 2008 of molesting teenage boys while an MP and minister in the NSW Labor state government in the late 1990s.
He was handed a maximum sentence of 13 years and eight months in prison, and a State Parole Authority spokeswoman said in a statement he would now serve that jail term out in full.
“Offender Milton Orkopoulos has advised the State Parole Authority he is not seeking parole and will serve the balance of his parole in custody,” the statement read.
“The SPA formally declined parole today, accepting also the advice of the Serious Offenders Review Council that release was not appropriate.”
Orkopoulos was previously denied parole in 2017 before being granted a conditional release in late 2019.
But his freedom was short lived after he divulged to police he had downloaded Instagram onto his phone.
This constituted a breach of the conditions of the Child Protection Register and on February 26, 2020 he was returned to custody.
Since then he has been charged with further offences of historical child sex and drug supply offences, police allege were committed between 1994 and 2001.
